Common Sense and Business Communication

I write a lot about business communication. The things I write about, talk about, and teach communication skills to individuals and companies of all time. I absolutely, positively, believe that everything he does, and everything to do in our lives is about communication. Today I want to offer some common-sense ideas that relate to business communication.

1 Do not assume anything. Just because you're saying, does not mean that they are listening. Nor does it mean that you are in agreement on the conditions. Blue May you be different from the Blue for them. tomorrow can mean to you 08:00, and 17:00 for them. Do not assume anything!

2 Use the questions all the time . Lawyers, accountants, consultants ... ask tons of questions to get to the root of the problem, for clarity and to make sure that all the facts. Follow their example.

3 position does not matter . You can be the CEO, and it does not matter when it comes to communicating. Too often, we believe that just because you are the owner, director, president, CEO ... you name it, they will listen and do it. Think again.

4 care more about them than . If you truly care about them, their needs and ideas, and what is important to them, and, and .... then your communications will be focused on WIIFT (what's in it for them). Even if all of your needs, wishes and ideas, others believe that it is about them.

5 Stop interrupting. Start observing how often the others to stop and finish one sentence. I bet you do too. We all do. You can not listen if it breaks.

6 If you can not tell them why . We all speak from time to time, "... because I am a parent or grandparent." It can work with children, although they do not like it. It does not work well with employees and suppliers and colleagues. If you have to say no, give explanation. May they do not agree or give you a buy-in 100% of the time, but sometimes.

7 Focus on the outcome you want, not the problem. tell someone everything you have done the wrong way and expect them to understand what you want different is crazy. Tell them specifically what you want, not what you want.

business communication is not so difficult. We would be difficult, because we have neglected the basic common-sense ideas. Try one of these ideas in the next month and see how it affects communication. Then let me know.
